bandit 1200 cam swap gsxr
« Reply #15 on: November 27, 2005, 09:22:19 AM »
Finally got some one on one time with the bike and got it dialed in.  I used Camotions and Web cams instructions to verify readings.  Also, I checked for timing chain stretch as suggested, and that did not  seem to be a problem.  Took her for a test ride and she is a real handful, great mid range hit and so smooth.  The original readings were 106 intake and 102 exhaust, now set at 102 intake and 106 exhaust. Thanks for all the help.

I think you'll notice 4-6 hp...  Can't say if it is worth the money, that's up to you.
For me, I wouldn't bother unless it was going to be part of a bigger mod, like head work and/or a big-bore kit.

The biggest change, and probably the most bang for the buck, is a slip-on (or full header) and a jet kit... that's usually good for 12-15 hp on the B12 since they come jetted so lean and the OE Exhaust is so restrictive.

I dropped in the 750 slingshot cams (I think it was 2001?) I I thought it was worth it. But just the cams by themselves, I don't know. When I put in the cams, I also went to Dale Walkers full exhaust,K&N pods, timing advancer, and stage II jetting. (1st Gen.1200). I'm pushing 40K on the odometer, and runs like a champ. When I feel like its getting tired, I'll do the pistons/rings and maybe some porting, whatever else, not sure yet. I'll wait till the time comes.

They'd have to be from a 1985-1990 GSXR750.  Other model years won't work in the Bandit head.

Yes, it was in 2001 that I did the mods. I picked up the cams through Ron Ayers.
