I have an 02 b12, with Dales stage 2 in it, I read on another post that some people were getting some smoke venting from that filter.

I was wondering how much smoke is normal? When i am Idle, there seems to be quite a bit of white smoke emitting from that little filter....Is this normal? Or should I be worried....

Also, if any of you guys in florida have dales stage 2, can you post up what settings you used for the jetting/needle/af screws?

How often do you have to add oil? I wouldn't worry about it unless you're consuming a lot of oil.

Well, I've only had it running for about 100 miles..

Story is I swapped an 02 b12 motor into my 05 katana, everything was working pretty well, just started fine tuning the carbs and everything, then someone on the kat forum tells me about the defective pistons, and looks like mine was one of the unlucky ones. It's not burning a lot of oil, barley any in 100 miles, but I don't want to run into bigger problems later on

I was going to see about just doing the 1216 big bore kit, but I don't have that kind of money to shell out right now, So I was just looking for some stock pistons if anyone has them.


Also, I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but when I'm slowing down, in any gear and neutral, it sounds like the engine is "winding down" almost like when you shift into first at too high of a speed, kind of like that sound, it happens whether the clutch is engaged or not, and ideas on that?

The winding down noise sounds chain related to me, maybe alignment.  The smoking breather is a bad sign.  I get an occassional odor now and then, but no visible smoke.  May be time for a compression check or a leakdown if you have access to the tools would be better.

Well, I'm preparing to take apart the whole motor to see whats going on inside of it, should have done it when I got it, but I just did a valve adjustment and figured I'd be fine.

As far as the chain, it's a brand new DID I got from Dale when I ordered everything from him, I'll check the alignment later today. When you say alignment, you mean like front sprocket to rear sprocket? Or alignment of the rear axle or both?

Also, since we all know the 'tick' marks aren't very useful in aligning the rear wheel, what's the best method that you guys use?

If you can get a leak down gauge it will save you a lot of work.  You will know where it is leaking before you get in there (if it is).  For wheel alignment I use the string method but you need a buddy to do that one.  Once you do it, as long as you adjust both sides the same when you do adjust, it will stay in.  I was referring more to chain alignment though.  Like maybe the offset is a little off with your motor swap-primary gear to driven.  Might make you feel better to know the piston issue was a 2001 thing that I believe was corrected before '02.  I think I would put some miles on it before I tore it apart, if it is a factory smoker it won't hurt anything as long as the oil level is correct.

Actually, the piston thing was fixed until part way thru the 2002 model year.
