Just how would I know if my carbs were out of synch on my 96' 600? It idels well and runs fine as far as I can tell. The only thing it does is even if I try to creep the throttle open, the rpms climb slow to about 1500-1600rpm then it jumps to about 2200-2400rpm. I can then sloooowly ease off and drop it to idle. Doesn't really bother me, just seems a bit strange. This is my first multi cylinder bike so if this is normal, I wouldn't know.

Carb Syncing will improve idle and you will experiance less vibration at higher rpm but that is about all.

The only way you can really tell if they are out of sync is to actually put gauges on them, and if you did that you would sync them at the same time.

About the only thing that will cause them to go out of sync is actual removal of the carbs, or valve adjustment.

Any particular reason I would have the throttle jump between 1600 and 2400 rpm? Makes it kind of hard to maneuver thru the driveway at slow speed. Sticky floats or something? I'm at a loss as to why I this would happen.

I Might have the same problem, I don't know. I only had the bike about three weeks now, 1996 600 S. But it starts right up runs fine, other then the low rpm jumping. In fact I rode it to Daytona Beach and back, about 90 miles round trip, and it ran great. I might try the carb clean trick of draining the carbs, filling 'em with Cheveron Tachron cleaner and letting 'em sit over night.

If you have varnish everywhere, it usually means a lot of gas is evaporating out of your bike leaving the residue behind. Does your bike sit a lot? You may want to try throwing a little Stabil in. There are some other good threads in here about people adding chevron techron gas cleaner.
