Title: Cast Iron or Nikasal ?
Post by: bstard on June 24, 2010, 04:37:36 AM
Hi
Stupid question but I going to ask...never had the head of one so can someone tell me .
Are the liners made from cast iron..ie you can bore them..
Or are they a Nikasal type coating ?
Thanks
Richard

What year and model?
All of the air/oil cooled GSXR/Katana/Bandit motors have iron liners.
I don't know for sure, but I'd bet the 400 Bandit, because of its age, would be iron lined also.
The new 650/1250 liquid cooled Bandit motors may very well have Nikasil coated cylinders.

Here's what it says on the US Suzuki site about the 1250 motor:

Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) plating on cylinders is durable and efficient.
