Crashbar and highway peg suggestions.
« on: June 21, 2010, 02:19:23 PM »
Again, asking for help or suggestions.   I'm looking for Engine guard or crashbars and footpegs for my 01 B12.  I would like to have a place to put my feet for longer trips and think a crash bar would enable me to put on a set of highway pegs.  Does anyone have this setup that could guide me in the decision making....   Pictures would be nice also...

Thanks
Phil

Givi & Renntec still make crash bars for your bike and you can easily clamp on a set of pegs.

One caveat with these though, they are made to attach to the lower engine mount that US bikes don't come with.  The provision (threaded holes) is there in the frame for these, so all you have to do is make a spacer to make up the gap for the missing mount (the thick hunk of trianglar aluminum you can see behind the lower attachemnt in the phots on both links).

Suzuki offered accessory guards back when your bike was new, but they have been discontinued now.  They aren't as heavy-duty as the ones above and I personally wouldn't bolt a set of pegs to the Suzi bits, though I'm sure it is possible. (This site's original owner, PeteSC, even had a set of these break a side cover in a parking lot spill, so they didn't do even the easiest part of their job.)

You might be able to get away with using frame sliders as highway pegs, too.  There's several outfit that offer these.  Here's one:

Paul,
The sliders look like exactly what I was wanting.  It will give me just enough room to rest my foot and be strong enough to handle a little action if needed.   That will save buying clamps and pegs to go along with the guards....

Thanks
Phil
