Title: Chain phuckup
Post by: FreediverGa on February 05, 2006, 01:31:19 PM
I posted awhile back about how links I needed when I switch over to 520 setup.  I stayed with stock front teeth count and went up one count in the rear.  everyone here said I could go with stock110 and it would fit but I should have gotten a 112  because I just tried to put the damn thing on and it's two links short and I can't find one now in 112

If anyone know where I can get a EK 520 mvx-z supersport gold chain in a 112 link please help me!!! All I can find now are 120's

Why don't you get the 120 and take 8 links out?  I did that when I put new sprockets and chain on my B6.

yeah that's what I'm going to end up doing!

Did you stay with 530 or switch to 520 as well?

I felt a huge difference, but I was going from a stock chain and sprockets with 22k on it to new Vortex sprockets and DID x-ring chain.   Didn't really notice a change in fuel consumption, but it did feel a bit quicker thru 1st, 2nd, and 3rd on the butt dyno.

I'm coming from stock to but I only went up one tooth on the rear stuck with stock number up front

Did you notice any extra drive train noise when you went with a new front/rear sprocket and chain with your bike.  I keep hearing people say you'll get alot more noise from them.

I didn't notice a whole lot of extra noise, but my chain was making so much noise already, as the rear wheel was adjusted all the way and the chain still had 3/4" of slack.  I didn't ride it much before I put new chain, sprockets, and tires on after I bought it.

I have never installed a chain. I've always taken my bikes to a shop to have one put on though that is about to change. Now that you know that I don't know squat on this subject let me ask a dumb question. Can you add a second master link to the chain to get the additional length you need?

I haven't shopped around lately, but that sounds pretty good to me... It's about what I paid for my ZVM a year or so ago.
