Title: Changing Chains
Post by: mustang66 on May 31, 2005, 08:20:16 PM
I will be putting a new chain on my 2003 Bandit 600 as soon as it arrives and I have some questions on how to change it.  Are there some tricks to do a complete chain replacement without the specialized tools?  Primarily I'd like to know if I can do a riveted master link without paying for a tool.

Well, when I did mine I used a large Hammer and an even bigger hammer!

Put the bigger one behind the chain and used the other to ball over the rivets for the link.

Worked for me. Dont hammer too hard, keep checking to make sure the chain is free moving. If you hammer it too much your up shit creak! :bigok:

Thats how I did mine, just make sure the link plate is well on before hammering! you might have to squeeze it on first with some sort of squeezing on tool because its quite a tight fit over the posts, known as an interference fit
