Title: D&D vs. Scorpion
Post by: SHREDDER on March 13, 2006, 02:42:52 AM
A friend of mine is trying to decide between a D&D and a Scorpion slip-on for his 03 B6.  If anyone has these on a B6 what are your opinions between sound, performance, and overall quality?

man, I have an 02 B6 with D&D slip on....It sounds great and you can tell the difference in how it pulls and what not.  I have not heard much about the scoripion so I can't tell you which one is better.  I just know that I love my D&D not to mention when I start gettin it in the high RPM range you can hear that beast a couple miles away.  If you have any questions just ask...

Would you say that the D&D is annoyingly loud while on a long distance run on an open highway?  Do you need ear plugs?

sorry to say this for the d&d owners. i had one on a previous bike. they do not last! i had mine for a few years the packing blew out of it it was way to loud and the carbon fiber dried and stressed cracked. d&d is cheap and loud. the other hand is the scorpion is backed with life time gaurentee on the packing they look great and sound nice mellow at low rpms and a little bark at higher rpm. roamr has on on his b12 and looks good and sounds good and he has some major miles on that pipe. if ya want loud and cheap get the d&d if ya want a bit mellower and longer lasting get the other one. just my 2 cents

I have the D&D on my B6 and I like the sound.  I don't think it is too loud and I am someone who is concerned about too much noise.  It sounds very similar to Roamr's B12 with the Scorpion pipe.

Well, Jim, you're one of the few that thinks D&D is a quiet can then. Most folks vote them as one of the loudest out there.

The quietest aftermarket can I've heard on a B12 is a Yosh Zyclone. I've never heard a Holeshot Touring can, but I'd guess it's as quiet or quieter based on my experience with the Holeshot 17" street can, which is only slightly louder than the Zyclone (both compared to each other when new).

One thing I have noticed is the B6 has a different sound than the B12, even when they both sport the same can. The 1200 has more bass to its tone.

DO YOU NEED TO REJET TO NOT DAMAGE THE ENGINE?  IS IT RECOMMENDED OR REQUIRED?  IVE HEARD THAT D&D PIPES CAN MAKE THE BIKE RUN LEAN.  CAN I GET THE PIPE AND RUN IT WITHOUT RE JETTING?   :?:

hey Jim, Roamr also has about 30 or 40k on that pipe of his wait till you pipe gets more miles on it. mine was not to loud at first they get louder as the packing blows out and loosens up. and it is always a good idea to rejet when adding a straight thru baffled pipe. thats just my 2 cents but joeninetoes put a yoshi race pipe on his b6 and it ran pretty lean and had bad backfiring on decel until he installed a jet kit?

You can run an aftermarket can w/o rejetting. It's not "required." It is highly recommended though. The bike is already lean with the stock setup and improving the exhaust flow only makes it leaner. (Heck, it'd be better to fatten the jetting with the stock can.) It doesn't seem to lean it out enough to burn holes in pistons, but it can make it lean enough to make it more cold blooded, have flat spots or not run quite as smooth as it should.

Title: Installed D&D on 2001 B6
Post by: kevinfromrex on May 04, 2006, 10:18:31 AM
I bought a D&D new on ebay and installed it last night. The D&D is loud, not anymore obnoxious than any of my friends microns, yoshi's etc.

The D&D literature says no rejet required for my 2001 Bandit 600S.
Seat of the pants feels good in middle and upper RPM.

The D&D pipe came with a chrome mid pipe and show polsihed aluminum can.

I will follow with pix and more tomorrow.

I have a D&D Carbon Fiber model. It was on the bike when I bought it.  It has a deep rumble at an idle.( My neighbor thought it was my Straight piped 7.3 Diesel ) Its not bad up to about 4k.. then it sounds like a skinned cat all the way to 10k.  I kind of like it, but not sure about the people around me.  I usually just putt thru the neighborhood and dont get on it until I hit more of an open area.  I can hear it  @ 70-75 MPH but its not to loud.  I think my 98db Yosh can on my DRZ 400 is louder @ hwy speed.  My morning commute is 25 miles and 16 of it is at 70-75 mph.  The wind noise to the helmet is more defining than the pipe.  I still think Hardly Drivens are louder.

Had a scorpion on my 01 b6 and just switched it out to a D&D. The D&D sounds so much better and performs great. I love it. D&D all the way.

I have had 2 Scorpions on my B12. Both carbon fiber, both went bad. Got a TwoBrothers on her now. Wish I had gone with TwoBrothers in the first place.
