Title: Gear indicator
Post by: mattydefran on November 04, 2005, 11:24:34 AM
Hi everyone,

I found this site that sells gear indicators. they do not have our bikes listed for the plug & play models, but they do have a universal solder in version. I was just wondering if someone who is a little more in the know could check this out and let me know if it will work on my bike. It says it works on an electronic speedo and tach. I own a 04 1200s. I remember reading on one of the posts here that the 2nd gens have an electronic speedo. Just wanted to see how much of a PITA this would be to install  :banghead:

Thanks

I've heard some folks have had problems with those giving false gear change info. They don't sense the gear the transmission is in, just try to figure out from tach and speedo inputs and can sometimes be fooled.

I don't know if anyone's tried one as just the display and wired it up to a factory Suzuki gear indicator switch from an early GS - which will work in the Bandits.

Paul,   I modified my gear switch this weekend and have my indicator wired up temporarily and it is working great.  I hope to wire the power in and take pictures ASAP.

I've tested the gear changes with the bike off and siting on the center stand and it works great.

Look at all the documentation other Banditos have given us and build it yourself for much less cost than $100.  Modifiying the gear switch only cost me $2 for the brass screws and $2 for the 6 wire pigtail.  It did take me a lot of time to complete.
