GS1200SS Drag Bike
« on: March 12, 2005, 05:28:16 PM »
Hi
Have been offered a set of Mikuni flatslide carbs RS40 for a good price.
The GS1200SS only has 32mm Kehin's on it.If the mikunis can be made to fit what sort of effect do you think it will have.I can afford to lose power under 3000-4000rpm in favor of a big topend gain.

If the SS motor is tuned like the B12 (mild cams, mediocre compression,  runs on regular, lots of bottom end, but flattens out well before redline), and I suspect with carbs even smaller than the 2G B12's Mikuni BSR36's, it is, I think 40's would be too big. Unless you're planning on some mods to bring it up to (or beyond) GSXR1100 type cam & compression specs.

What is it you want? These motors are capable of anything from a mild bump in horsepower from a jet kit and a slip-on, to fire breathing US National Championship drag race motors. (The first street legal bike into the 7's was Brock Davidson's Bandit.) Just depends on how much you want to spend.

Check out these two sites:

Hi
OK I see that there are alot of possibility's.
I think I will go with a Dyna two step and shift minder to start with.
That should help with the consistent launches.
As I have an RD400 based drag bike I think I will leave the GS std for a while.
Thanks
Richard

Richard..... its a small world,
I had the bandit dynoed at RED BARON,and they where good to deal with, but i think they have a giggle at me as they probably don,t understand why anybody would want to have such a low spec ed loow H.P bike like a bandit dynoed at all .They said nicely that the air fuel annalyser that they put up the pipe to get a reading printed out the readings in japanese and they couldn t read japanese.
The bike read out at 102H.P at the wheel with scorpion pipe k.n and the pilots changed from 15 to 27.5 as per the bandit F.A.Qchart under carburettors.take note that all of the dyno print out charts on the sights seem to give H.P readings at the crank and the SUZUKI N.Z distributors told me you can add on about 15% from rear wheel to crank???????

can you let us know what it gets to.i imagine they are very similar

Hi
Looks nice.
I have decided to leave the GS standard. The RD400 Drag bike that I have needs to be finished.
The guy that has the 40mm Flat slides for sale has alot of other drag parts that I could fit onto the GS.It just seems a pity not to take advantage of the good prices he is asking.
But I will concertrae on the RD and leave the GS for winter street meets.
Here is a link to the parts that are for sale.

Thank

Hi
Here are the results of my Dyno run done today on my GS1200SS.

We discovered that the GS1200SS is speed limited to 180kph.
That explains why I was getting only 114mph top speeds and the small "stumble" that seemed to happen randomly at about 9500rpm.
So it was a good learning exercise.
Thanks
Bstard
P.S...So how do I disconnect the 180kph limiter?

First question is where does the limiter get it's speed info?
Does it get it from the speedo, or from a combo of gear & rpm?
Once you find out, seems like you'd just need to rob the igntion box of that info by snipping the offending wire. (You wouldn't want to rob it of rpm info, but if you fool it into thinking it's never above 3rd gear...)

A B12 ignition box may cure it of this, too, but I don't know for sure.
You're our first GS-SS owner...
