I'm wondering at what point of use do these items need attention! Alternator, starter, clutch, etc?? I have almost 35k on the trusty steed (1G/B12) and have had to look for stuff to do to it other than tires, chain!

Clutch will probably be the first to go. "Average" is ~50K - of course, some sooner, some later. I haven't heard of any starter or alternator issues even from guys with 100K.
-
The starter and alternator both have brushes which do wear over time.
In both cases disassembly is needed to inspect or replace them. I'd wait for problems before tackling either one. Based on past experience with other bikes having similar starters and alternators I can claim minimal brush wear at 70 - 80 K miles on at least two other bikes, Honda Nighthawks.

The clutch will give you some prior warning usually like slipage.

If any Aussies have problems with the starter or alternator, rather than replace try repairing it. There is a company in Geelong Vic that specialises in small coil rewinds. I've (my mechanic) has used them on previous bikes of mine. The company is Small Coil Rewinds - 50 Edols St Nth Geelong ph 03 5278 8454.
