Title: Heavy Traffic Idling

Supposed to be in the 90's this week. When I get caught in traffic where I will be idling for 10 to 12 minutes or so, is it better to shut off the bike and re-start, or just let it continue to idle?  

Also, when traveling as slow as 10 to 15 m.p.h., does this allow enough air flow to properly cool the bike? I tend to get caught in slow traffic downtown, and lots of red lights. The other day I could really feel the heat coming off the engine. I run 10W40 Suzuki conventional oil.

You'll be fine...these engines can take a beating... 15 minutes is nothing... i was in a traffic jam for 4 hours (not even kidding) when i was trying to get to the US baorder... there was a 5 car pile up and the entire highway got closed down... by the time we were re-routed, 4 hours had passed... i turned my engine off a few times, but 15 minutes shouldn't be an issue at all.... :motorsmile:

OTOH, if you know you're gonna be stopped that long, might as well shut it off and save gas.

Red01 makes a good point. ALL of us should think about shutting things off after a couple of minutes of idling, saving gas and emmissions.

Howeverm the Bandit SACS engine will be fine. See comments in this thread...
