I don't think there's gonna be much improvement with a change of can, at least my wife hasn't noticed. While the can is smaller, it is also has no double walls, so may even be hotter. My wife also complains of the right peg being buzzier because of the can being mounted to it.
I don't know if the CF cans would be any cooler, but they don't last as long as metal ones. I've seen some CF cans fray fibers after a few years. They can also start to loose color from UV exposure after a while.
(FWIW - there are a lot of CF parts on modern jets, and all those parts that are exposed to daylight get painted.)
IMHO, the best solution would be a heat shield of some kind. I've never seen one offered up, so it is something that would have to be fabbed. I've mulled it over a little, but never tried to whip anything up since my wife doesn't go for rides very often, and when she does, it's for short jaunts, so I've just made her deal with it.
