i need more power!!!
« on: December 30, 2006, 12:46:11 AM »
lol ok i got the G1B6 in may of last yr.. was a great bike to learn how to ride on agian.. (its been yrs since i have rode a bike b4 i got this one..)
so now that i have one season with this bike...
well im noticing a few things what are messed up with the bike that needs to be fixed..  but one of the other things is power...  when i first got the bike it had great power.. and it still has the same amount of power it had when i first got it..  however its just not enough.. i ride with a freind of mine what has a gsx 600  and that bike will straight up beat the crap outa mine.. what can i do to make more power?  i know rejet it and advanced timing..  but is there anything else that can be done?  like the cams from a older katana will they fit? and will they produce more power? is there a company that sells rebuild kits for these motors? i was thinking about changing the front and rear sprokets but i dont wanta kill my top end.. as of right now the bike will get off the line just about as fast (maybe a lil faster) then my GTP with slicks...  but my freind gsx will leave my gtp sitting there....   get what i mean?   is it posable to do this with about 1000$  or would it be wiser to take the bike and sell it and take all the money and buy a bigger bike?  thanks all!!!!

Depends on how much power you want.  You can do the cam upgrades, piston upgrades (If there is one for the B6),  Although I have heard of some B6's that could tear up the road.  But if it is raw horse power and torque that you want you might want to go with the B12.  If that is not enough there are Hella upgrades for that bike.  GSXR cams, 1216 big bore piston upgrades, and those would give you sweet HP and torque.  I know you can find B12s pretty cheap especially 99 and below.

  I have a B12 for sale.....

Need more power, get a bigger bike or get a 750 Katana motor.

I know of many upgrades for the 1200 motor, but I am not so sure about the 600.  Getting an exhaust and jet kit would definitely be a step in the right direction if you want to keep your bike.

i think im gonna go with the 750 upgrade... but then this time next yr ill be screaming for mo power... lil at that time i just might upgrade to a 1200......  but im gonna get the holeshot stage 2 jet kit and try to keep my carbs. and as for exhaust i have a yr and half old brand new oem (idk i didnt buy it) midpipe and can...    so i know im prob gonna have to upgrade that area...  ill keep yall posted...  im gonna start ordering parts here in a few weeks...

its either put the money into this or into my project mustang.  and i rould rather have the bike over the mustang...   so my vote goes to the bike...   as of right now though i need to replace the front shocks along with everything else...   but im also looking for G2 body fairing..  i likethe look of the front headlights better...  and the mirrors mount to the windscreen..   and a set of clippns. and idk there some other  stuff too...  but ill start a threadd when i start tearing into it...

You want more power... and a G2 fairing?
Sell your G1 B6 and buy a G2 B12!

While it's not impossible to put the G2 fairing on a G1, it's not a bolt-on affair - and when you're done, the body lines of the fairing and tank won't match as cleanly. If you consider what it'll cost to get a 750 motor and a G2 fairing, you could probably get a G2 B12 and save $$... and have all the other upgrades the 1200 gets that the 600 doesn't.

Kind of funny, I like the looks of the G1 fairing better.  That is one of the reasons why I went naked.  I agree, by the time you do the motor and fairiing, you could've just got a B12.

Yep, once you are all done with the upgrades you are close enough to a B12 cost wise that you might as well just go straight to the B12.  I have learned the hard way that once you put all the money into upgrades it really doesn't help on the resale.  I think that only thing that helps mine is the alarm.  Of course maintaining.  You can find a B12 just about any where for 2,500 to 3,200.  In most cases if you sell the bike you have you will be over half way there.  Then add the money you are about to pump in for the upgrades you were going to do, and there you go.....a B12 with more power than you could have upgraded to with the bike you have.  Plus later on, if you are still "SCREAMING" for more power (and most B12's for sale actually already have minor upgrades i.e. jetting, exhaust, air filter, and in some cases the suspension) then you can opt for a stage 2 about 160 bucks, plus GSXR cams for about 320 buck shipped, and you can get some nasty power out of it.  If you want to go further with the piston upgrade then you have a torque monster that can ride the ass of a gsxr 1000 and below (stock of course).  The bandit wieghs more than most most of the crotch rockets these days so anything more than that then you should invest into a sports bike.  Just another mans oppinion.....take it how you want.

drop a tooth on your front cog.

i have on mine and its made a noticable difference. more torque and quicker acceration. as for top speed

Quote
Actually, you may get a higher top end with a 14T sprocket.  Wind resistance is the limiting factor to top speed on a Bandit.  You'll never get to 10K in top gear.  With a 14T sprocket, you should put the motor into a more effective part of the torque curve and be able to overcome a little more wind.

i've yet to test this theory, but i'll let you know when/IF i get chance. it'll only be 10mph at most i would of thought anyway. and unless you go on a track, where honestly are you gonna be using it?

oh yeah. my results may vary because mine isn't the 600.
