Ignition coil interchangable?
« on: January 28, 2008, 02:20:29 PM »
Hi,

I am looking to change my ignition coils since the old wire becomes hardened and can be easily pulled off the plug boots. I found some used units online for other Suzuki inline four models. They look exactly the same as my current coils, and they all have similar model number 33410-xxxxx. Can I use them on my 96 Bandit 600?

Thanks!
Jay

Why not just replace the wires if that's all that's bad?

I tried to change the wire, but in the process I broke the plastic locking clips which hold the wire into the coil pack sockets. If I were to do it again, maybe I should spray some wd40 first. For now the new wire works with no problem, but I am not sure if the wire will come loose someday, since they are held in place by only half of the locking clips.

Also, when I insert the wire, should I use some ignition grease or heat up the wire end? It's really hard to screw the wire into the plug boots.

Thanks!

The ignition grease would be a good idea.
Nothing wrong with a secure fit, you don't want it working loose.

You might want to add a dab of some kind of bonding agent it you're worried about the wires' security at the coil end.  Just don't use something that might seep into the connection and have a negative effect.
