Title: Leaking valve cover gasket on 1200 bandit.
Post by: jlewis50 on March 07, 2006, 08:46:21 AM
I noticed my valve cover gasket was leaking a little from the front right corner. I pulled the large cover bolt nearest it and found a little oil there as well. I placec a small amount of gasket sealer under the bolt.
Any other thoughts here?

My '99 B12 29,000 miles was doing this as well.  So for my last valve adjustment (which I did last weekend) I replaced all seals, and washers on the cover.  No leaks yet.

Could be pinched, or going bad from age.

From my experience, if a valve cover is leaking, just replace it and save yourself the headaches.

99 B12 here.....I keep a few of the "washers around as I find that they will leak from age. I have 60,000 km's on mine and have replaced the valve cover gasket 4 times.  In my opinion the washers need to keep pressure on the V.C gasket for it to seal properly. Do yourself a favour and buy those washers and keep some spare.......

I applied a little gaske sealer on the  allen head screw and had no leakage since.
