Muffler Interchangeability?
« on: October 29, 2009, 11:54:54 PM »
Hello, all, could someone tell me if all bandit mufflers for all years are interchangeable?,i have a 2001 bandit 600 and i see lots of used mufflers for a 1200 or a 1997 600 bandit, but i am hesitant to purchase as i am new to this bike and unsure.
Also, which mufflers (in your opinion) have more of a  sportbike or F1 type of sound,i definately dont want a pipe that sounds like an old burnt out muffler on a honda civic ,lol, thanks for any help

The 2001-2003 1200 will interchange if you get the midpipe with it.  The 2004-2005 1200's muffler is welded to the midpipe, like the 600, and it will interchange, too.  I'm not 100% sure if the 1G's muffler OE mount is in exactly the same location, but I think it is, if so, you can use the 1G 600 muffler, or the 1200's if you get it's midpipe.  The midpipe/muffler DO NOT interchange between the 1G and early 2G B12's because the mounting flanges are clocked differently.

When it comes to aftermarket cans, you can use any B12 can that comes with a midpipe.  You can use aftermarket bolt-on B12 cans if you have the corresponding B12 midpipe.

When it comes to the sound of an aftermarket can, I've yet to hear one that sounds like a Civic with a burned out muffler.  :bandit:
Different brands may have different sounds - in tone and db.   My own persoanl tastes lean towards the Yosh & Holeshot cans.

personally the 'sport bike' type of sound I would say if generally from a yoshi. But its best to check some vids on youtube to hear. I used to run a Hindel which sounded a touch deeper than the yoshi, now I'm running a carbon muzzy, and the sounds I think suits the bike, a deep rumble and easily told apart from anything else.
Case in point, I was getting fuel at work this summer, and hear a bike across the harbor in our fine city, I said 'geez that sounds like my bike'...and a few minutes later who drove by but my other half out for a spin on the bandit.
personally I'd go with an aftermarket can if your buying a can anyway.

Thanks for the replies!
The Muzzy systems do seem nice, and the only soundclips i could find on youtube for them was on a ninja, they do seem rarer to find than hens teeth, and when you do the vendor wants to retire after youre payment, lol.
As far as full systems or just slipons for the muzzy,is there another Suzi that is close to the bandit for fitment?,is the gsxr close at all?.

Full systems, no.  Other Suzukis that use engines from the same family have different sumps and pipe routing.

I'm not aware of any other bikes with a midpipe that is similar enough to the Bandit to interchange, but if you cut your muffler off (on those with welded on cans), you can slip on just about anything as long as the pipe diameter matches.

So,pretty much any bandit,B6 or B12 up until 06 is interchangeable as long as you get it with the mid pipe?
