Title: MY engine NEEDS 1500 RPM Idle Speed....Is this Bad??
Post by: Sandman9270 on March 31, 2007, 05:32:40 PM
So as long as I have had the bike, I noticed it idles rough below 1500.  According to the manual, top normal is 1300rpms.  I figured I would fix this when I adjusted the valves and synched the carbs but it still seems to need 1500....any ideas why this is?  Anyone else have to idle this high?

If I do it any less the engine seems to stumble every 4-5 seoncds at idle.  I am going to re-synch the engine as I rushed it a little bit (I don't have an Aux. tank so I just used the fuel that was in the carbs.  But all columns were within 2 lines/marks of each other, I wouldn't think they would have to be PERFECT......

Check for vacum leaks around carbs.

You could need a air screw adjustment. Have you drilled out the screws and checked the factory air screw setting? Many guys have found a LOT of variation in the factory setting.

They don't have to be perfect, but they have to be very close.  You may want to take a look at your plugs as well.  On a side note, does it need it when it is cold or all of the time?
