Best Gearing Ratio Mod?

Hey all-
I have "searched" this topic and was overwhelmed with all the hits and threads.

So, I am interested to hear from any of you who feels you have found the best gearing ratio for the following bike and riding style:
- 2G 1200
- "Sport-touring" style riding.
- More riding under 80 than over.
-Seeking better low end use of bike's torque

It seems the 14 tooth front is easiest to do. The 14/48 seems very popular too. Saw a "Feebay" listing which swears the 14/47 ratio is optimal.

One interesting thing I did read is that the noise level picks up a little when going with an aftermarket front sprocket...apparently the OEM one has some rubber noise reduction feature built in.

Anyway, any feedback is appreciated.[/u]

I went with the stock front sprocket and +2 teeth in the rear so 15 in the front and 47 in the rear. Just enough differance(aprox 5%) to make my B-12 just right. Just a FYI any sprocket changes will effect the speedometer as the pick up is off the front sprocket, not off the front wheel like the bikes of yesteryear. There are lots of products out there to recalabrate the speedo , I used one called Speedo Healer and now my speedometer is right on. :motorsmile:

Maybe you sporty folk don't care that much! but don't forget the tighter turn or smaller sprocket will shorten your chains life! With the xtra R's you will be turning, and a sweet tune exhaust sys! You won't even notice the Front sprocket if it does make any noise.  :beers:

I like to take the way of roads least traveled. I'd rather speed around the back roads than get on a straight slab. I added 3 teeth to the back,and that seems to be the ticket for me.You will also need 3 more links of chain.(113/48) I also went even lower for track days. I have a 51 sprocket and a race chain that keeps my rpm up coming out of the 4th gear turns @ Nelson Ledeges,but its too low for riding the roads.  Dan

I have tried going 1 down on the front Hated it
Gone I up on the rear Hated it.

Just increased the rev's too much on the highway.

A different story if all your riding is done around town however.

+1 on the rear works well for me.

It gives 75mph top gear at about 4400rpm.

+2 in the rear worked best for me.  I have an annoying buzz when cruising at between 4 and 4.5k.  The 47 in the rear put me past that.  Plus I like the extra torque off the line.

The 15/47 combo seems to be the consensus from what I've heard as well.
