Title: New (I hope) Valve Adjustment question....
Post by: Sandman9270 on December 24, 2006, 10:19:52 AM
Few quick questions.....

1) I have a Haynes ()or Clymer) manual for the 96-00 600 Bandit are there any real differences fro valve adjustments or can I use that as a guide?

2) What are the recommended gaps and in what units?

3) The Pep Boys had straight and "bent" gap measuring tools which should I buy?

Any help with these questions would be appreciated as I hope to tackle this project soon.

OK, the manual you have will be just fine for your bike. For the 600, there are no mechanical differences between a '00 & '01.

If the mileage is low on your bike, like under 7500 miles, you might want to set them at the wide end as they tend to get tighter on fresh engines. If you mileage is higher, it's more a matter of personal preference. I like to set them in the middle myself.

I like the bent ones too....I use a go /no go style of adjustment...if it says .007-.009...and as Red01 says he like them in the middle...take the .008 and do the adjust...then if the .009 won't go..it is at .008.
Have owned the bike since new and done all work myself. Yes a fresh engine tends to tighten...I have 80,000km's on mine...and valve adjustment is rarely out now.......
