Title: Noisy gear change
Post by: s1ms on August 26, 2006, 02:31:13 PM
I'm new to biking and bikes but I fell in love with them from the first time.

Well I bought a used 1997 GSF1200 and some questions regarding its gearbox. When I change gears from neutral to first there is a big 'clunk' sound and bike jumps a centimeter. Same thing is when I lower a gear from second to first. There is also a loud noise when changing other gears. What should I do guys to be able to shift them more silently?

Thank you!!! :)

that is pretty standard on all bikes to have a clunk when going into first and also into second. If you pull up to a bike at a light listen. Changing the oil helps if it is older oil but other than that, it is the nature of the beast.
