how can i test if my coil is grounding out some where it was making a tick noise and i think thats what it is. thanks

Auto parts store ought to have a coil tester... though coils are becoming a rarer thing every day in the automotive world.

You will need and ohm meter and a shop manual. Then you test he continuety of the coil and also check to see if the coil is grounded to the coil case.
