As you may or may not be aware, the options for high-quality oil filters for the Bandit are rather slim, as per this web page:
http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/FilterStudy.htmlMark, the author, asked me about possibly exchanging the nipple in the engine block with a compatible part from Suzuki's line of outboard engines, thus allowing the use of Pure One filters. Has anyone heard of doing this?
Here is Mark's message to me...
Btw, you seem to be hooked up with a bunch of other Suzuki riders. I
have a homework that I've been unable to get done. The oil filter on
Suzukis fits in a nipple sticking out of the engine block. The nipple
screws into the block. It has 20x1mm threads on the filter side, and
something else, I think pipe threads on the engine block side. There is a
comparible nipple for the Suzuki 4-stroke outboard motors which has the
same threads on the block side and 20x1.5mm threads on the oil filter
side. If someone could look over an outboard motor parts fiche, order
the correct part, and verify that it can be used in the motorcycle
engine, then we could all use Pure One filters and feel a whole lot
better about our oil. I don't have a part number, there are no Suzuki
outboard dealers anywhere close to where I live.
Has anyone even removed or replaced their oil filter nipple? Even with a stock part?
This may be a lot of work for a small benefit, but it's an interesting question.
