Title: Plastic fasteners
Post by: Jimmy Tom on June 19, 2009, 09:54:52 PM
For the plastic fasteners similar to the ones Honda uses that have a small Phillips head, Suzuki uses something similar but without the Phillips.  I can't seem to push it through from the front, can't get to it from the back, can't get a knife or small screwdriver behind it and I'm stumped, any ideas of how to get these out.  I'm trying to get to the unused parking light connector to wire some farkels in.  The four fasteners are at the bottom of the fairing cowling.  You can see two on the right side of the bike here.  ok, can't seem to get the picture to show up

If it makes any difference this is an 03 Bandit 1200S.

I have taken those off...use just have to slide something like a small screwdriver under them and pry them up.  The needlenose pliers will pull them out easily.  You can get replacements at AutoZone, so don't worry about hurting them when you pull them out.   They are called "nylon rivets".

Thanks Sven,

I wound up taking a second, or sixth, look and pushed them straight in with the 4 mm allen.  Even remembered to then pull everything out prior to wiggling the bottom cowling so didn't lose anything.

I'm new to Suzuki, real used to Honda, so sure there will be plenty of other questions down the road.

Ok, next question.  It seems there is a phillips screw mid point front to back holding the inner and outer fairing together, right where they join, and right up against the outer fairing.  I've figured out the hook in the manual means a press/ grommet connection, this doesn't feel like that.

Any pointers?  I hate to break stuff.

Not entirely clear on how far you have gotten, but the "hooks" are fragile little ears on the black "V"-shaped piece.  In the bottom of the "V" is a sort of plug-shaped piece.  If that is where you are, check out this link:  http://www.zerogravity-racing.com/sportbikes/suzuki_sptbks/Bandit_Install.htm (http://www.zerogravity-racing.com/sportbikes/suzuki_sptbks/Bandit_Install.htm)

To lift the "V" piece, sort of press in and slide up.  See picture #11 in the link above to see how small the tabs/ears are.

Thanks Sven, man I wish I'd found your link earlier, though nothings broken.  Scared myself a time or two though.

Finally found the parking light circuit, now to wire in a relay and fuse block to add those farkels.

Thanks again
