I'd like to preface this with the fact that I've never owned a bike with a hydro-clutch.


I raced my bike last weekend for the first time and it did great. However, I was worried that my launches were doing some damage to my clutch. I didn't really see an issue until today.

Today i went for a long ride and thought I'd start working on my clutch wheelies. When cruising at around 40, when I drop down, rev it up, and dump the clutch, my bike rev's up quite a bit and then slowly grabs the clutch. I did it a few times with the same result.  :crybaby:

Now in all other aspects, the clutch feels good and tight. I can bang on the gas in any gear and at any speed and my r's don't raise more than my speed. Know what I mean?

So is this the result of the hydro clutch? Do I need a new (or stiffer) main clutch spring? Are my friction plates on their way out the door?

Thanks for any advice, insight, assistance, etc.

The situation you describe has nothing to do with the hydraulic actuation of your clutch.  The same thing would be happening if a cable was used instead of hydraulic pressure to disengage the clutch.  Sounds like clutch slippage from a worn (abused) clutch.  A fresh set of plates will probably clear it up.

Today I ordered a Barnett clutch kit. Not the biggest fan of Barnett clutches, but it was cheap and it will be here tomorrow in time for the race.  :bigok:

Are you sure the rear tire isn't spinning??  Sometimes mine does when I do that.

100% positive. I know the difference.  :wink:

I put a new clutch in it and swapped out the fluid and I am back in business.  :motorsmile:

It is taking a little bit of time to get used to the Barnett. My times were all over the place at the track last Friday.

Feels pretty grabby.

I've run Barnett's on dirbikes and quads and never really liked them because it takes away a bit of your clutch control. However, those are usually 5-spring  clutches which I think is part of the issue. This one is grabby, but not too bad.
I don't have too many miles on the new clutch and I'm sure it will take some getting used to at the track, but so far, I'd recommend it.

Always. Just cruising I notice no difference, when really getting on it, I notice it, but it doesn't affect me. It's when I actually WANT to slip it that it wakes me up.
