Title: Quick question about shimming

Hi reference this pic:

Do you put the shims in between the nylon "donut" and the C-clip on the tapered side of the needle? Thanks.

Also I was thinking about drilling some holes with the shims to experiment around a bit. Where roughly does the airbox hole from the holeshot stage 1 go so when I get it I can encorporate a few of my own little holes from shimming experiments. I know it's "at the top" of the airbox. Say 2 inches down from top ok so when I drill the real hole after rejetting it fine.

You are correct with the shim. The 2" hole usually is directly across from the stock hole and snorkle. You might be shimming it more than .20 if put a 2" hole in there. If it runs crappy, duct tape the hole closed.

By meaning across, you mean directly above it I'm assuming. I wasn't thinking about 2"(1.5" for my 2G) yet. I was going to leave the original jets in there and just shim it with 2 shims and adjust the mixture screws for my Muzzy slip on before I decide which jet kit to go with. This way it should tide me over for a few months while I decide.

The reason for me drilling say a couple of 1/4" holes is to try and experiment with say 3 or 4 shims and a couple of holes for an extra bit of horsepower. And you're completly right if it doesn't work out duct taping over a couple of 1/4 " holes should be no problem. When I pick which kit I want I'll make sure to drill the 1.5" hole or Ivan's many Holes where the "tester" holes I made are so it's nice and clean.

Remember, everyone repeat after me.....duct tape is my friend....duct tape is my friend!!

AHHHHHH 2nd generation! :duh: Sorry still recovering from the holidays. Please disregard the 'hole' issue! Damn I'm funny.

No other advice to offer. I only rode mine for 15 miles before I put a kit in.

Did you have to shim that RCA 21" T.V. to get it run properly on your bandit, or did you drill a 2 " hole in the back of it to mount it on the tank!
