Bike is a 2000 GSX1200Y. I would like to replace the stock muffler purely for just a little more noise over stock and lightness. I'm not into wanting a huge performance increase as stock has enough power for me. Would it be necessary to rejet in that case and is there a muffler make that perhaps is more suitable for what I have in mind? Thanks Guys. I'm also presuming that the pipe is the same as the bandits its looks it visually.

Just a bolt on? (Yoshi RS3 suggested) No rejetting! Slip on @ the header joint, maybe! If you have a K&N filter YES you should. Watch the header tubes, anything but the light gold color is not good! :motorsmile:

If you can find a nice used Suzuki RF900 factory can, it'll bolt on the 2000 and older B12 and will give you more tone, keep a stock look, and not be quite as loud as even the quietest aftermarket cans... and the RF can is lighter than the heavy monster that comes on the B12 (but not as light as an aftermarket set-up).
You can put just about anyone's slip-on or bolt-on without re-jetting, but considering the bike is already pretty lean out of the box, rejetting will give you a better running bike that warms up quicker - even if you don't change the exhaust at all.
If you buy any of the Yosh cans, get one for a 2001-up B12. These will fit just fine and come with a mid-pipe. The cans Yosh lists for the 2000-back B12's are bolt-ons and use the OEM mid-pipe, which has restrictions of it's own.

Be advised a bolt on for a newer than 00 isn't the same for the older bikes! Will bolt up but is turned out at the bottom. Bolt pattern is the same but diff clocking. Also if you get a pipe with the midpipe like the Yoshi RS3 for say an 03 you will have to rejet, and 4 sure if you have any airbox mods or even a K&N filter! :annoy: :bigok: :motorsmile:

if i get a jardine RT-1 with midpipe for my bandit 600,would i have any problems if i didnt rejet?

You will make a bike that's already too lean even more so.
The 600 seems to suffer even more than the 1200 does in this area. 600's really need a jet kit to run right with the stock exhaust. You will be best served to hold off on installing the new can & midpipe until you can install a jet kit at the same time.
