sporadic running issue

2002 bandit 1200.

the bike has ran just fine for many years. on my last ride before i had the tank off to do some work, i had a weird problem occur.

was riding my favorite twisties at a spirited pace, topped out fourth gear, cruised a bit more then it started acting up.

the tach needle would jump around while cruising and the engine was sputtering almost like it was running out of gas. pulled the clutch in and pulled over, and it was idleing just fine. so, i got going again and it was running like normal, and then about ten minutes later it did it again?

so, tank came off, i replaced the air filter, spark plugs, deleted pairs system, drained tank and put in fresh fuel, and capped off two vaccuum lines i found were open coming off the no.1 and 2 carbs. tank filter looked fine.

started it a couple times the last few nights, and it started up and idled better than it ever has. revved real clean and no hang-ups as the revs came back down to idle.

go to ride today, and it ran good for 5 min, then it started doing the same thing, idled great, and would go back to running fine, then it would happen again. almost like every other 5 minutes it would go from running fine to to sputtering at 3-5k while riding.

it idles perfect the whole time. kind of puzzled here??

pinched or twisted vacuum line for the petcock?  A few times after pulling my tank i got the vacuum line pinched for that petcock.  works great in the garage but once you get going the fuel demand is too high for the low vacuum to keep up with.
