When i tried to start my bike this morning it fired up once, but I didn't have enough choke. When i tried to start it again it kept making a whiring noise as if the starter was stuck. I put it in gear and rocked it back and forth for a little while to try and unstick it, but no luck.
I had to bump start the bike to get it running so I could get to work. When I got to work I turned it off and tried to restart. The starter is still making the whiring noise.
I am off to laguna seca this weekend for the motogp and can't afford to have my bike act up on me like this. Especially when I have little or no time to do a major repair job.
:crybaby:
Any sugestions?

Check the bolt on the starter clutch!
(Item 4 in the pic)

It's located behind the left crank cover.

thanks for the info. I will check it out when i get home. I figured the starter was shot and am trying to find a used starter...since the new one will cost me $300+
Hopefully the bolt will be loose and I just need to wrnech on it to have all well again.
Thanks again :thanks:
-
yup...that was the problem. took the side cover off and when I checked the bolt it was loose enough for me to move it with my fingers. Used my friend's impact wrench and it started up as son as we got the cover back on again.
thanks again  for the heads up

~35k
Not sure if it ever happened to the previous owner or not. Worth taking that side case off just to check it though since it was a real pain in the arse having to push start it

My 02 B6 is doing the same thing with the starter. When I pull the left cover off will I need to purchase a new gasket?
-
i never replaced the gasket since we were super careful when we removed the side case. I would have some gasket repair paste handy if you don't want to spring for the new gasket.

Well here I am 15k miles later and I have the same problem again. My starter clutch bolt has loosened up again.
I am wondering if it would be okay to put locktite on that bolt to stop this happening.
-
Absolutely. It was supposed to to begin with.
-
cool...will head out and get some tomorrow.
Thanks for the help

Yes, put lock tight on and torque to the manuals Specs.
