Title: Starter switch overrides headlights?
Post by: bstard on October 29, 2009, 04:16:05 AM
Hi
On your GSF1200 models does pressing the starter button automatically disconnect the headlights ?
Obviously they come back on once the starter button is released.
Are your models set up this way?
Mine is a Jap model GS1200SS.
Thanks
Richard

Yep, that setup has been standard on many Japanese bikes sold in the North American market since, oh, about 1985 or so. That allows the manufacturers to get away with a smaller battery than what would be required if the light stayed on while starting.

It's standard on most modern bikes, but not on any first or second generation Bandits I've seen. All it takes is one additional $5 relay and no complex electronics, but I guess even that was deemed too expensive or unnecessary in this case. Sorry to bump the old thread, but this needed some clarification.
