Title: Wrong gasket!
Post by: captainshortypants on May 18, 2005, 05:44:08 PM
So I had an oil leak on the left engine cover on my '02 B12.  Took it into the shop, and they discovered that it had the wrong gasket installed.  I bought it used with 3000 miles on it, and I can't imagine why the gasket would have had to be replaced in the first 3000 miles.  It seems to me that it must have come from the factory like this.  Anyone else have experience with this?

The cover could have been off for a loose starter clutch bolt (not unheard of - and when loose, the starter can't turn the engine over), or if the cover was replaced due to a tip-over (the covers are thin and break easily).
