1250 lower fairing

Has anyone added the lower fairing to their 1250? I'm curious to know if it has to come off for oil changes and, if so, how long it takes to remove it. Any input is appreciated.

I think "Happy1250Owner" had a full lower on his before it exploded!!! You might want to contact him directly!!

No doubt the other four also had the lower failing as well and were all completely destroyed by the piston projectiles.

Good to hear Buckshot. How do you like it? I've been on the fence about adding the OEM lower fairing for a few months. Most of the owners that have one say it doesn't provide much additional protection. Do you agree? I was really more interested in it for the aesthetics. To me, it just completes the bike nicely. On the other hand, I like the look of the Bandit motor. And don't want to add something that would make oil changes more of a PITA. And comments and feedback is welcome and appreciated! -Ken

I've had the lower fairing since the bike was new and it really is a matter of removing the securing bolts with an Allen key and it comes off real easy. I put a rubber mat under the bike to save scuffing the paintwork when I lower it to the ground.

As for protection, it is more for looks and keeping muck off the engine than for protecting the rider from the weather. Here's mine:

If you want to compare with bikes that do have fairings designed to protect you from the elements then you are looking at bikes like the BMW R1200RT and the FJR1300. These also have fully integrated luggage that go on and off easily and don't leave ugly ironwork behind on the bike. These are proper tourers and cost about twice what we'd pay for a Bandit.
