Speedometer error:
« on: August 02, 2009, 05:50:55 PM »
Guys:  New to the forum and just brought home an '07 Bandit 1250. Coming home, what is the ridiculous amount of speedometer error on this bike. I'm riding 85 and getting passed by everybody. I'm guessing at least 10%. Hello new rear sprocket!   ,BK

Welcome New Guy ... There are plenty of threads on this topic.  If you decrease the rear sprocket teeth count by 8%, or what ever % of error, the speedo will be corrected.  Most people wants lower gear but a few of us wants a higher gear for a more relax ride when doing long distance at high speed.  Engine vibration and noise for long hours at high rev drains the mental energy.  That little bit of more relax cruising may extend the long day a little bit more.  It may also put the engine speed at the peak torque and HP when cruising at the high speed.  Riding across the roads out west, Mojave, for example, you'll be going at 90-100 mph for extended time.  RPM is high at that speed.

My previous bike was a Kawi Z1000, and I geared it +1/-3, so you can see I'm a big fan of overgearing. I want the efficiency and smoothness that gearing up provides. I tried a search and it came up donuts. From what I can tell, the only direction you can take with this bike is to go down on the rear. Not a big fan of a new chain, so I'll just go -3 and leave it at that.   ,BK

As Bill said, there are plenty of threads on this. With my GSF1250SAK7 the faster I go the more its out, so I use my GPS.

HUH?   Loud Muffler or ???

Good question! I was on a Z1000 Kawi in the middle of B.F.E. Nebraska just minding my own business. The Kawi did have a full Micron, so it was loud, but not Harley loud. Anyhoo, I was doing 66 in a 60 when this State Trooper decided to ruin my morning. I'm convinced if I was on a cruiser, or B1250, I would have never had this grief. That's my half of the story.  ,BK
