Title: DL650 Handguards with Throttlemeister?
Post by: Scubadvr on August 09, 2009, 06:45:51 PM
When I got this '07 1250, I inherited a Throttlemeister with it.  I want to put on DL650 handguards for winter driving, but knowing how they install, I don't see how they can go on with the Throttlemeister, at least on the throttle side.  Anybody out there solve this one yet?  Or, find a different aftermarket set that attaches to the outside of the bar end?

TIA!

I've been looking at the Kaoko cruise control. They make one for the 1250 and the images from the website www.kaoko.com/cruisecontrol.html (http://www.kaoko.com/cruisecontrol.html) show images with handguards.

Nice, but did you catch that they dont ship direct to US or Canada, and the prices seem a little high, even if those numbers are dollars, which I dont think they are!..more likely Euros!

Nope Rands, and it comes out just short of 90 bucks US.  I was wondering if they were worth it, but if they don't ship direct, then you have to go through one of the resellers.  One of which had them at about 129 bucks.

I'm primarily looking for wind protection during the winter months.  I would rather disable the Throttlemeister over the winter.  IIRC, the DL650 handguards only run about $40 US, and the outer end installs in the gap between the grip and the bar ends.  If there is room to install them and just not use the Throttlemeister, that's what I'll probably do.  I was hoping there was someone who had managed to fab up some kind of bracket to extend the connection point to the end of the bar end.

I think that twisted throttle sells them.

They make a Throttlemeister for the DL650/1000 that ought to work on a Bandit with DL handguards.... sadly, the TM site doesn't show a DL with a TM.

Thanks, Red!

I already have the TM (it came installed on the bike), so I think I'll just order the DL650 handguards and see what I can fab up.  Other than that, I may have to get a hold of somebody's OEM bar ends for the winter   :thumb:

Let us know if you work something out... I know I'm interested.  I have the TM on mine and that's been the main thing keeping me from going with the Strom guards... and I don't wanna go out and buy a new TM either.

Actually, The Barkbuster Storms (http://www.barkbusters.net/products/78.html) look promising....No crash protection, but they clamp on the handlebars for weather protection (which is all the DL650 ones are good for, as well).

Near as I can tell, you can only get those (in the USA) from Twisted Throttle and they run US$99.
