Title: Does the 1250 suffer from that lean stutter?
Post by: bstard on October 28, 2012, 04:26:17 AM
Hi
Well the title is really my question.

I have had a 2004 GS1200SS from new and as you all know they are set up lean from the factory.
Trying to get rid of that "off idle stutter" was a hassle.

So I am now thinking of trading it in on the 1250. This will be my first ever fuel injected bike so I'm wondering what they are like
brand new.
Does the 1250 have any of the lean stutter issues?
Are fuel injected bikes as smooth in that "just getting back on the throttle" range as a well set up carbureted bike?
If the 1250 is set up lean from the factory then how hard is it to sort?
Thanks
Richard

A lot of 1250 owners notice the stutter that you mention and I'm sure there's many more who simply ride round the problem.

It's the simplest thing possible on the 1250. Simply disconnect the O2 sensor (it's just a connector under the left side panel) and plug a resistor plug (available from dynajet and other sources for not much money) in its place. The engine will then fuel perfectly and not have any hesitation or stuttering. It won't affect fuel consumption either and certainly the best and most cost effective mod I've done to my Bandit.

Hi
Thanks for that info.
I'm having a hard time giving up my GS1200SS and it's carbs. My old bike had won my 3 national Drag racing titles and I still love
the look of it's twin rear shocks and super low seat.
But it is getting to the point where I would find it hard to replace any body parts as the wear out...a bit like me

2007 1250, no stutter here.

June 2011 GSF1250FA, UK spec.  Zero miles / kms.

Have done 16,500 Km (I live in Uruguay), use Premium U/L, MOTUL 7100 full synthetic, wet clutch approved oil, Iridium plugs and K&N fabric filter from brand new.

NEVER had a stutter or any form of doubt about the fuelling.

Hell of a bike, I love it to bits.

Buying in UK with the tax, shipping and taxes in Uruguay (100% import plus 22.5% "sales" taxes), road tax and insurance (67 YO) cost USD $26,000.

Ducati Panigale 1198R USD $52,000 price from Uruguay Main Dealer.  But (allegedly) you get 90% back after two years if the bike is undamaged and book stamped.  This is probably because new bikes are going up in price all the time here.

Speed limit is 90Km highway, 110 Km for what passes as a motorway here.  Just have to watch out for Policia Caminera (Highway Police)!
