Tires
« on: January 16, 2010, 10:25:46 PM »
Hey all,
Has anyone tried Continentals Road Attack tires?  Some guy (Nick Sanders) rode around the world on a R1 and got around 11,000 miles per set... Need tires by May for annual inspection,  just looking around.

Haven't got many miles on mine so I can't comment on wear,  but I love the feel of them.

Sounds great.  With the lowering kit, Suzuki gel seat and better tires than stock,  maybe it'll get funner.

I have my 3rd set of road attacs on the Bandit and a set on my SV. I havn't tried all the tires there are to choose from, but I think they are a good tire for the $. I,ve ridden in different road conditions and they seem to hold up pretty well. Good enough that the B12 has its 3rd set on. I certainly don't get 11K out of them, probably closer to 3400-3600. I would get 2800 miles out of a back 207 or 208 Dunlop.

I'm got 5000 miles on an 07 b1250 and the original Dunlop 218 rear is down to the wear indicators.  It just seems that you should get more out of them than 5000 miles of ridiing on Amish back roads.

I think it's more a question of how hard do you ride. My first B12 had Metzeler's and they wore like stone until I had the bike a few months and I became comfortable. When I started doing the hard accelerations and figured out how to attack the corners they wore fast.

I'm taking Smooth Operator's advice and going with Road Attacks next month. (if it's warm enough to ride.) I hope to get at least 8,000 miles from them but my new B12's primary role will be low speed commuting back and forth to college with the occasional day trip to the Jemez Mountains or Madrid. Maybe even up to the Taos/Red River area if I'm feeling really good one weekend.

On a side note for anybody planning a road trip through New Mexico this summer, these places are "must" visits or you shorted yourself. Just watch the gas gauge out here, stations can be few and far between in certain areas.

I just picked up a 2007 Bandit with 4k miles on it. It has a fairly new RA on the back. The front tire is the stock 218 Dunlop, it's seen better days. I debated putting a Pilot Road 2 on the front but in the end and after checking reviews on the internet I went ahead and ordered the RA for the front also. Just didn't seem right to split them up and the price was about the same. The front end seemed a bit wobbly so I'm hoping to see an improvement.

I have about 2000 miles on the RA's and they still feel great.  I noticed from the get go that the front end wobbled after the tires were installed. Coasting up to stops riding with no hands, (stretching out the back) noticed the bars wobble, never did it with the dunlop's. I guess they didn't balance them.

I'd be curious to see how the RAs work compared to the PR2 (or new PR3).
