vertical streak? That seems odd...

Yeah, makes me think you guys are correct with the condensation idea.  I called the dealer/service tech today, and he said my short rides to work were probably not "burning" all of the condensation out.  Sent the wife to Wal Mart for some oil and will change that (the oil, not the wife, although...) and watch it.

Changed oil, not filter.  Did a 30 mile ride, all is well for now.  My ride to work is about 4-5 miles...is this too short of a distance to disipate some of the moisture?  I have to say, the traffic is stupid going to and from...i.e. SLOW.

Sadly, my Trek 5200 is relegated to a resistance trainer...too many 75 mile rides killed my elbow.

I would say that a 4-5 mile ride, less than 10 minutes, is perfect for generating enough heat to cause condensation and NOT enough to drive off the moisture.

You need to go on a long ride, of at least an hour or more. I think you are just seeing small amounts of condensation, but as Zen advised, its good to be sure.

Did another 50+ today and the oil is still looking good and clear.  Homage to Zen et al for all of the suggestions/expertise.  Now, on to a new issue...please see my "Stebal Horn" thread and hear about the last 3 miles of todays 50.
