BUSH FIRES
« on: January 02, 2006, 05:56:53 AM »
Just saw the news tonight (I don't usually watch the News - too depressing) and it tells me you guys are having pretty bad fires there.....

I hope you all are alright and essentially uneffected.  What took me by surprise was that I thought it was Winter over there....  :?:  :?:

We've had some pretty devastating fires near where I live and north of Sydney as well as Victoria, but it's almost expected here in Summer.

Unseasonably warm winter...shortsleeves and shorts.  No rain in a couple of months.  Idiots throwing out cigarettes and/or shooting off fireworks, not to mention the geniouses who do illegal brush & garbage burning.

Nope, we ain't spontaneously combusting here.  But we do suffer with widescale mental retardation.

Saw one last Friday during a ride... those things move frighteningly quick.  Tried to get some photos but had to leave the area.  Luckily this one didn't touch any structures.

Our annual rainfall was over 20 inches less than normal in 2005 - roughly 50% less.  It's weird seeing sprinklers on watering brown grass.  Add to this absolutely NO rain in the long range forecast and I fear more fires are coming.

Most of Australia can sympathise with you blokes.....

A lot of country Vic and NSW have been on water restrictions of one sort or another for a couple of years.

Late last year there were some smaller Towns in Western NSW that had to have drinking water trucked in.  Even our Capitals are suffering - poor dears -
