New Sauce from.....texas??
« on: May 22, 2006, 12:00:29 PM »
Just bought a new barbi sauce that is all the rage up here and it's got beer and chipotle in it!  not sure about the beer as I guzzled half the bottle and never got a buzz going!

What's the chipotle?  Is it texan?  I know I could look it up but I'm giving somebody a chance to show they are smart AND to make fun of me at the same time!  What more could you ask on a Monday?

This whole chipotle thing is relatively new.  Seems the last 2-3 years it's all the rage and showing up in the various Mexican restaurants.  In fact, there's a whole chain of new restaurants (new to me) popping up called Chipotle's.

I went to a local Mexican restaurant recently and had a steak with chipotle sauce just for the h$ll of it and I didn't care for the taste.  I won't be ordering that particular sauce again.

I prefer plain old hot sauce AND easy on the cilantra, please, 'cause that ain't much good, either!

Mmmm, hot sauce, queso, pico de gallo, chili con queso....

D@mn you, Jim!

Herb, ya fell down on the job.  To more directly answer Jim's query, a "chee-pote-lay" is a smoked chili.  They get the same properties as other smoked and dried herbs, making them popular for sauces, pizza toppings, etc.  But so far I haven't heard about them in magic brownies.

As for the Chipotle's chain of quasi-fast food restaurants...haven't trieds them yet, heard good thngs about them, and they are (dunt-dunt-dahhhh!) owned by McDonald's.

Around here, we say "chih-pot-tull" cause we're Ahmercuns, not Messicuns.

Most people I know say "queery", not "kwerry".  Asking me how *I* say things is dangerous.  I spent half my life growing up in the west coast and the other halg in the south, but watched a lot of BBC, so no matter where I go, people alwasy say "you didn't grow up here, did you?"  I also punctate like the British, even though I have been formally trained in newswriting!

I was gonna take a pass on this one, but heck...
