Title: Ideas about this forum...
Post by: PeteSC on March 08, 2005, 12:50:01 PM
I kind of intended this to be a 'UK' type forum.  Being a Yank, we sometimes have imprecise terminology for stuff outside our borders.

I intended this forum to be used by members in Britain, Scotland, Ireland (both), Wales, and the general region.

Is there a more appropriate title or designation for this forum?
I'm not sure what is appropriate, or 'PC" these days.......

Of course, 'cheeky' forum name suggestions are welcome! :monkeymoon:

Well nothing wrong with United Kingdom as the forum name, at least we know where we are! Also if intended to be used by the Welsh any chance of some Sheep Emoticons just to keep them happy!

What are some of the other regional forum's taking about? Aus/Nz they talking about beer? lots going on just need to know whats out there in the UK, routes, roads to burn up and so forth. :thanks:

May take some time nowt seems to be going on yet, will have to wait and see.

And you could have the name "Little Britin" but dont know if some poeple might get upset. For example the poeple who make a program called Little Britin?

*COUGH*
Ireland isn't in Great Britain.
*COUGH*

I prefer everyone to be in the one forum tbh. Subforums like cause a lot of dilution and make the site more time consuming to navigate.
If its for social/legal* issues particular to the regions it's cool, but any techy posts should be moved from here to their respective bikes techy forum.

*ie rideouts/ gatso locations, insurace company gripes

I'd suggest "UK & R.O.I." as a forum name, to avoid stirring up dormant nationalism in us paddys :)

Yeah...I figured I'd step on some toes.
How about IRELANDS, or could put Rebublic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland?

Is British Isles offensive?   What is a better term for that group of countries/islands that can't speak proper english like us Americans?

   (No, not AUS and NZ!)

   :monkeymoon:

I'm sure we'll have one bandit rider on the board from a Channel Island or something that will feel left out..... :duh:

If this gets to be too much hassle, I'll merge your forum with the OHIO guys!   Boy, will you be sorry!  :beers:

Can't please all the poeple all of the time. OK British Isles thats good, but just because we have a tunnel does no mean the French can join the British Isles! :monkeymoon:  I like the idea of the speed camera issue in this area.  :stickpoke:

The tunnel problem is easily solved.  Hire a German kid with a popgun to guard the entrance on the French side.   They won't enter......
(Just a bad joke, folks....)  :beers:  :bigok:

OK, to be Politically correct, I could call the forum
ALL AREAS EAST OF CANADA, SOUTH OF GREENLAND, NORTHEAST OF  THE AZORES, WEST OF FRANCE (THat drive on the wrong side of the road...)

But I doubt there's space.....

Hey echomadman
How about a forum name like Great Britain and the "spud pickers" :bandit:

sorry only jesting i'm half irish myself.
I think having this sub forum is a great idea but also agree tech stuff should go in the regular specific message groups.

Robbie

For crying out loud. UK/British Isles sounds ok, but if you put the German at the tunnel the French would join them. They wave the white flag too easy for me!  :stickpoke:

It's not the intention for this to be the spot to discuss the techy stuff, but just the regional social aspects.

From this forum's Guidlines thread:

This forum in intended for general banter for members from the specified region, or about the specified region.

It's pretty wide open, within those parameters!

You can use it to organize rides, for general chat, (with a regional flavor), and for outsiders to learn about your area.

Hey Mick I didn't know you were a 'too and from'.   I was born near Bradford, mum and dad moved the family to Oz in '70.  I don't remember much about the place, I was only 5 when we moved - my brother and sister remember a fair bit though.

Anyway, sorry for hijacking your forum guys, we'll return to normal programming after this commercial break.........:)

I can't speak for B6Mick, but the only crime my parents committed was considering a move to, and I hope I don't offend anyone, Canada.

I've still got lots of family in the UK, mainly in Yorkshire.  Funny thing is they keep coming out here for holidays but just can't seem to make the move for good.
