Went for a little jaunt today! lots of riders on the way! What is the proper wave etiquette? Hi / low? If a HD rider starts to wave but pulls back cause your a rice burner rider, do you still wave? How do you folks in the UK do it (wave that is) if your throttle is on the right side and you ride on the other side of the road???

I normally just give a nod of the head to most bikers, i will hold back from custom or cruiser riders because many a time i've nodded to them and got nothing back so i'll let them nod or wave first.

In the winter I'll wave/nod to all and sundry, be it custom, cruisers or even mopeds. In my book anyone who rides in the rain, cold, frost, wind, snow etc deserves a nod or wave.

As for etiquette, I usee a wave or salute at low speed, or a nod at high speeds. At night I normally give a quick flash of the lights.

In England, bikers tend to nod to each other. If it's a group of bikes its sometimes a hand but usually a nod. The proper riders (who still use the same BSA or Velocette they did since 40 years ago) do the cool "old man" nod which is sideways and carries the optional cheeky grin

Here in Oz, I haven't noticed any particular trend when it comes to bike brand or style, wankers will ride anything and ignore anyone - personally, I always give a nod of the head in town and a wave of the hand out on the open road - even the poor old postie on his CT110 will get a nod from me.

I'm a firm believer that there is no such thing as a stranger on a bike, just mates you haven't met yet....

Now that is etiquette that can be USED!! We need a code for bike riders? The hassle of, are they going to wave or not? Am i a snob for not waving? Did they see me return the wave? Wave, nod, or what ever!! I rode the loop here in Daytona this weekend and it took attention away from what i needed to be focused on, "the road". Had the boss with me and one more close call and I may as well put that hump on the back of this bike cause she won't be using the seat again!!!

In the greater washington DC area about 10 years ago, it was a hand on top of the helmet when the cops were around. I guess it was to symbolize the old style hats that none of them wear anymore anyway. or maybe it was "keep a lid on it" (as in under control, helmets are a no-brainer... heh, thats punny). Either way it was very clear.

as to waving... its a wave or clear nod to any and every less-than-4-wheeler. unless conditions prevent it. And I don't care what they ride, if they're on the side of the road, stop. Worst case its an opportunity to have a smoke, best case you get a friend for life.

I generally nod everyone on bikes,scooters etc..generally using a nod to the side as i find this easier to keep an eye on the road .As for the police presense gesture i wave my left hand up and down (hopefully this is to signify a reduction of speed)though if the rider is acting a twat then i leave them to it!!!

only the odd harley or chop rider that do'nt give a responce !! but then you have to be odd to ride one of those things in public anyhow !!pmsl ( prolly opened up a whole can of worms there !!lmao ...but who cares ??)

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I love Harley Riders - if it wasn't for them spending their hard earned on reeaaally expensive bikes, and more importantly reaaalllly expensive accessories, I wouldn't have an 02B12 and 'The Treasurer' wouldn't have her M750.

Consfused, it's simply really, 'The Treasurer' was the Spare Parts and Accessories Manager(ess) for the local HD Dealer....
