Batten down the hatches.
« on: April 04, 2008, 09:03:05 AM »
Wow, did we just cop a blow job or what?

The weather type blow job, minds out the gutter.

Trees down, power out, deaths, and just pure chaos on the roads.

A co worker is still waiting for his power to be put back on 3 days after the storm.

We have been off line and with no cable tv, for the best part of 3 days, and the back fence got relocated.

Other than that we got out rather well, compared to some.

Do you not get severe weather very often down your way?  In the middle of the US, we get winter ice storms that disrupt power break tree limbs  and spring and fall tornados with high wind that knock over fences and trees, etc. So the type of effects you describe are still unpleasant, but not unknown.

Right now, it's rain, rain, rain.  Been raining pretty much for two weeks...have logged 5" at my house in April, and today is only thr 4th!

Rode elbandido into some Mississippi River flood water on Monday evening (on purpose, and only about 5-6 inches deep, I'm not crazy!).  It really was the river, flooding a couple miles inland at Shelby Forest, and it did have a current, not just backwater.

Where I'm at, we get windstorms frequently in the fall & winter.  If the power isn't back up within a few hours, it's out for days.  We usually loose it for 2 or more days at least once a year.  In November, 2006 we were without power for 8 days.  Still, the power company refuses to put the transmission lines underground.  Last fall, I finally got around to getting a decent generator that'll run more than just my fridge & freezer.

No not really, we are the lucky country don't ya know.
Ok up north they cop cyclones, but us down here, we might cop something like that once in ten years.

The sad part was it was all wind and sweet F all, of rain, if ya can call it rain, it was really mud that fell from the skies.

But its all good now cables back on so I'm getting my alley, and Jerry fix.

I have just *got* to make a trip down your way!  Pictures of Australia are always so beautiful.

Meanwhile, here's a pic of me on Monday, in Mississippi River floodwater.  The river is now a couple miles inland on both the TN and ARK side.: http://ssscheer.us/ARidersJournal/2008Journal/2008Images/20080331-ShelbyForestSPTN-MSRiverFlood-SSS-Blue1dl.jpg

Isn't that standard on the teal model?  A newer pic:
