Looking for a Trailer
« on: April 19, 2005, 09:27:04 AM »
Ok, the family has convinced me to get a trailer for the Bandit so we can do some overnight/week tours, and the Treasurer has decided that, time and kids permitting, we should do more Rallys.

I've looked at Classic Trailers, Ali Lite, Beetle something or other in Canberra, and a few others, but they're a wee tad to rich for my blood brand new.

I'm looking to spend around $2000.00 including the tow bar etc.  If anyone has any leads let me know.

The only hurdle is the sale of my beloved little '85 Colt.

Ok, so the trailer is going to have to wait,  it turns out the family has decided to sell the Magna, buy a newer Camry (Auto) and we're keeping the Colt (Manual) for the eldest to learn in....bugger bugger bugger :crybaby:

although, if he grows anymore he won't fit in the Colt.

How did the Magna treat you?

I had a mate who brought his with him when he came to NZ. It was an early model Sedan and he reckon it was a heap of shit. Another friend bought one second hand and it lasted him about 5000km B4 it crapped out.

Now my Magna SW has done 236000km and is still purring. Mind you, Im out in the country and when it goes anywhere it gets a really long run. I dont think they were meant for townies

Ours was '93 model, when we bought it in '96 it had around 70,000 on it.  In the 9 years we had it we put another 110,000km on.
It only really started costing money about 3 months ago, CV joints, cooling system, and lots of other annoying little things.  But overall I was really happy with it, probably the best car I've owned.

The only reason for selling it was that the eldest son, at 6'3", was a bit big for the back seat, so we decided to buy a bigger car.  And before anyone asks way a Camry, my wife is the Stock Control/Customer Relations Manager for the local Toyota Dealer, so needless to say we got a fairly good deal.

With Tall TImber like that Mick, you might have put an offer in on the unwanted Popemobile - lots of head room

That's not a bad idea....fortunately we've only got around 12 more months then he'll have is bike learners, he's on his own then.  That does pose it's own 'little' problems, like finding a bike that is learner legal and  big enough for him.  The only things I can think of, in road bikes, are BMW F650's, Suzuki Freewinds and the like.  Maybe a ZR550 or a GS500 or ER500 at a pinch.

Actually, we were at one of the local bike shops, booking the wifes M750 in for a service, and the tall, skinny piece of pelican poop (better known as my eldest) spied a Ducati 600 Darhma and very quickly says "Hey Dad, I've found me bike - can have it".  My response, "Not a problem son, you can have that...but you're paying for the servicing and insurance".  With that he went and had a closer look at the Freewind 2 bikes down.

He might have to start off with a Beemer - they seem to accomodate the lanky set

Fortunately I've only got 2 and there's 6 years between them, so I've got time to save.

Better still the little one can have the older ones bike when he's done with it.  That's pretty normal for the youngest to get the hand me downs.

I'd like to buy them new ones, but their both like mum, got expensive tastes when it comes to murderbikes.  Mum rides a M750 - expensive little suckers to service - $950.00, that does include a chain and sprocket set.

Fortunately, I think I've convinced Kris (the big one) that a Freewind is the way to go, although there is a nice looking VFR400 down the road for sale and it sure would look good in the garage.  Ofcourse, because he'd be restricted to 80km/h, I'd have to take it for a decent run now and again on some of my favourite roads, you know just to blow the cob webs out of it for him.
