Marty - If we don't take them on the roads I'm planning, they will hate me for ever. You see the kids love bikes, to the point where I not only have to fight mum for the bike mags, I've got to fight them as well. They know most of the 125, 250, MOTOGP, Supersport and Superbike riders and they get really pissed if they miss a race - thank god I record every one, and they know most of the popular bikes by sight and sound. Yep, were are one motorcycle mad family.
Slo - the M750 is a 2000 model Ducati Monster 750, with Staintunes and is loader than most HD's, B6Mick can confirm that. Now she wants to put some go fast bits on it - 70hp at rear wheel is not enough for her anymore.
As for taking the kids with us on rides, we simply modify how we ride (read slower). Plus they wear the best projective gear I can get and afford - trust me there's not much out there for short 10yr olds. The 15yr old has all the good gear, except gloves at the moment - his old pair are now too small so he wears my spare ones.
When the eldest is 16 and 9 months I'll be buying him his first bike, I'm thinking BMWF650, Suzuki Freewind, Z500 or Z550, GS500 or something similar. I've got to go big in physical size because there's not many 250's that a 6'3" person will fit on. There is method to my madness in buying him a bike
1. I control what he rides
2. He can't take his mates with him - so they can't talk him into doing silly things - quite so easily
3. No stereo - therefore no DOOF DOOF music to distract him
4. He learns road skills a damn site faster and better than the average cage driver
5. He already knows how much it hurts and how expensive it is when you fall off - he's learnt from my mistakes
6. This is purely selfish on my part - he's no longer totally reliant on me or mum to get places, and last but not least
7. 3 grand buys a pretty good bike, whereas 3 grand doesn't get you much of a car.
