Slap me silly but I gave the island a miss this year.
The minister and the twin boys had me off, motorcyleless :crybaby: and away camping/fishing. but the upside is this little number.

Yes mate a brown trout, might I add the biggest brown I've ever caught, no it was caught using maggots on barbless hooks. I'm not in to fly fishing yet, bait only.
I fish to relax, throw the line in sit back and relax till the bells go crazy.
Thats probably the reason its taken so long to catch one like this. And man it tasted delightfull, cooked in butter and garlic. Best part it feed 3 of us.

Better still have just spent, and few quid on 2, 4 man inflatables, so next time, we will set up camp upstream, then drive down stream with our push bikes, in the van, lock and leave the van. Ride the pushies back to camp then drift down stream in the inflatables to the van. Looking to buy a couple of those electric outboards, just to get to those backwaters that trout love to hang out in.

talk about a plan!

I'm not a big fan of bait fishing, I can't just sit there waiting. Using lures/fly, I like the fierce battle of wits between me and.... a fish. never mind

There is absolutely no substitute for expanding bait..........

I used to like fishing.....till I moved the country NSW.......now it's all 'Murrumbidgee Mud Sharks" and "Redfin" with the occaisonal Trout or maybe even a Murray Cod or yellow belly if I'm lucky.

Most of these can be caught on what I used to call a "Whiting outfit"......

No kickass Snapper, Jew Fish, shark, or even a half decent tasting Flat Head.....

Freshwater fishing sucks....

Oh, and before anyone says "you obviously didn't try real hard"  Well I've got over $1000.00 worth of freshwater lures, rods, reels, waders etc etc sitting in the shed catching nothing but dust.......plus 4 seasons of wading up and down the creeks and rivers round the area.....the most exciting thing I caught was a very nearly legal Murray Cod.....

She’s a beaut, Mick!  I’ll bet a brownie that size put up quite a tussle.  I’ve been catching some monster brook trout the last few years (>20 inches) but they don’t fight like the browns.
