B.O.S.S. 2006 was Susie and my second B.O.S.S rally. We met some new members and got reunited with the Robinson clan. Speaking as a Harley owner and not a Bandit owner I must stress again that your group is by far the best to ride with, to socialize with and to belong. Susie and I have had so much fun at the B.O.S.S rallies.
The rides were great. We did 223 miles Friday. Some of the others did a few more but I took Susie and a few on a straighter route back to camp from the dragon. Susie was getting tired. She wouldn’t admit it but she was starting to brake way before the turns. (This is how I can tell when she is getting tired.) Actually it’s a good thing to remember. When you get tired one of the first things to go is your depth perception. Anyway, We are no longer Dragon virgins!! We have slain the dragon !! My chicken strip is almost non-existent, Susie’s is getting smaller and smaller.
It was cold in the mornings especially if you were used to waking up to 65 degrees as we were in VA. Beach. Someone suggested we leave for the morning ride by 9AM, I suggested June. We don’t like high 30’s low 40’s. But we were better off than the Florida gang was. I think they were in the beginning stages of frostbite. But nobody I mean NOBODY was expecting to see snow. But there it was at 6000 ft.
Saturday the group split. Some had to leave. Roamer and the Robinson’s were riding to Georgia. Susie, Rat bike (Jim) and I went off sightseeing and wandering on a slower pace through the countryside. We clocked about 160 miles and found some great roads. 74A wasn’t bad at all. A long, long stretch of switchbacks. Of course except for the interstates we liked all of the roads. But then again we’re from VA Beach. Where all the roads are straight and flat, so any kind of elevation change and twisting and turning gets us excited.
Now for Saturday nights raffle. This was a most unbelievable event. The Robinson’s (who are noted for getting all the loot) were actually giving away prizes. Yes you heard me correctly. No money was exchanged. No raffle tickets had to be purchased. The Robinson’s put numbered tickets in a sack, everyone drew a ticket and in numerical order everyone got a prize that the Robinson’s had provided. Except for the Ball protector that Roamer brought back. Which Susie held up to one breast and said this won’t do any good. Where’s the other half??” (I don’t know what I am going to do with her !!)
Yes we all had a great time. But as much fun as we were having, I can’s count the number of times all of you that could not attend were mentioned. I.E. It’s a shame Pete isn’t here… Pitter would love this……etc. So next year make it a plan to attend.
