I have read all of the safety and police warnings concerning our up coming jaunt into the hills, but there has been one topic left out.

Wildlife.

As frequent riders of the Skyline drive and Blue Ridge parkway my wife and I have seen herds of deer, black bear with cubs, wild turkeys and an assortment of small critters. The one thing they all have in common is they believe that the roads are theirs and you do not scare them. So please, please be very careful. You may be able to handle a 25-mph curve at 75-mph but when you exit that blind curve and see the three deer standing in the middle of the road looking at you remember these words. “I told you so.”

I'm glad you mentioned that scooter trash, as a matter of fact a deer nearly came out on pete yesterday but just barely turned back in time.

Susie and I have lots of amusing wildlife stories to share sitting around the campfire. One of Susie’s biggest concerns while riding her bike is wildlife jumping out in front of her. She doesn’t mind the occasional drag race from light to light (that’s one reason I’ve got a Bandit). She doesn’t mind running down the interstate 85 to 90 mph for hours on end. But up I the mountains she nervous. And that’s probably what’s kept us safe. I won’t ride any faster than she wants to ride, and up in there we do the speed limit for sure.

wildlife is always a concern. A couple years ago a woman was killed on her Shadow when a black bear wandered out in front of her. This happened about an hour after I had passed the same spot on my way home from work, and I left early that day.

but for the grace of God ............

I think about that every time I go home that way now.

I did see an unusual amount of DEAD small animals in the road.....
Possums, 'coons, squirrels, etc.............

The deer on the BRP turned off the road, and started running paralell to it....which made me nervous!

trukeys! THOSE THINGS ARE QUICK I had two of them run out in front of my bike !

As a Virginian and to reply to Mick’s post. Mick you are confused about Virginia and West Virginia.
West Virginia population 1,808,344 two one last name. Everyone is related.
Just like when the young West Virginia girl was about to get married she told her soon to be father – in – law that she was still a virgin. He quickly went to his son and called off the wedding. He said, “Son. If she ain’t good enough for her family she sure as hell ain’t good enough for you.”
So unless they stray into WV there shouldn’t be a problem.
