Thanks for your positive opinion of BA, Redbandit, I agree this is a very cool board, aye?

But please... let's not bad-mouth anybody, we're not in competition and many members post on both boards. Each to their own!

The interesting thing about MS is that I've only posted over there a handful of times, and every time, it was for the purposes of letting people know that we were back up here.  As far as I know ( and i haven't been back in a while) my posts weren't deleted.

I attempted to post some pics of the handguards and also of some saddle bags I have on the 1250.  But, I was unable to do it.  I have to say, if it can be done, it's not a very intuitive process.  A lot of the boards that I use (and I'm not even sure what MS uses) are powered by vBulletin.  I know nothing about setting up a board, but on those that use vBulletin, linking pics/stuff is very easy.

Hi!  The reason you can't post images is because the images need to be hosted somewhere, then you just post a link to the pic, inside the "Img" tags.

i.e.  press the "IMG" button, then type or paste the image link, then press the IMG button again.

I agree that vBulletin is easier, and it should be, since it's paid software, and phpBB isn't.

But this board is much more laid-back and relaxed, more of a family atmosphere.

Soooooo true, Zen. No axes to grind here, nothing to prove by/to anyone, just info/ride stories/good times sharing with lotsa tech help. What ELSE would anyone want in ANY board ??
I hang on the Suzuki Two Stroke Titan & Triples Board during my off time in the winter (been a member over there for at least 9 years) and it's very much the same as this board. That's why I've stayed here, as well. Both boards have the same "feel". I guess most Suzuki owners (two stroke or four stroke) share a lotta the same ideals, values, outlook, whatever.
I've never been on the MS board.....but it sounds like I don't need to bother even looking at it......so I won't.

Well, Stormi, if I can use php semi-successfully , ANYONE can.....so it can't be THAT hard to use. I've never used vBulletin (knowingly) but if it's better than php it must be incredible. php sure gets my vote.....and it's pretty good stuff for free, IMO. What's not to like.....right ???

I think it's a matter of what you need in forum software.  I personally think that forum software should have about 3 major things in mind when being built.

1. Usability - If it can't be used by -anyone- on the net, it shouldn't be here.
2. Security - the forum will not stay up for long if it's insecure.  phpBB is notoriously full of holes, and constantly being exploited.  That's one of the main reasons it drives me batty.   It's perhaps THE most insecure forum on the net by default. Not only that but the design team believes that spam is not necessarily compromising the usage of the forums, as it -is- intended to post messages, and spam messages are still messages.  Uhm,.. yeah,.. not quite a sane argument for not having security in place to stop spammers by default.
3. Modularity - making modifications to the forums shouldn't affect the entire board, or be tied to a particular theme.  For instance, if we change themes ( color scheme and general layout of the board) two things will happen, 1.  Error messages like crazy from several broken updates and 2.  When there's an update for the software, it either can't be applied, or will have to be done manually, or #1 will happen.

The fact that phpBB meets one of three of those criteria is why I say that phpBB is cow dung. :)
