1250 Rear Carrier
« on: June 10, 2007, 10:59:25 AM »
ZenMan wanted shots of the rear carrier so posted here for everybody's benefit:

The struts down the side that fit onto the the grab rail mounting points and then down to the pillion footpeg mount point provide an excellent side grab rail for passengers which is otherwise sadly lacking on the standing bike.

Thanks, D! Excellent pics. I do like this rack, it's functional and unobtrusive. This will be my next purchase as soon as it becomes available in the U.S..

From the look of the welds I'm assuming it's made of steel... is that correct? Ot is it aluminum?

Do those little rubber plugs on the side rails pop out?

 :thanks:

It seems like steel though I haven't taken a magnet to it. Those bungs pop out to take an addition piece of metalwork to support the side cases but they aren't an option I'm going for.

Does a Givi case fit without additional parts? It looks like it would. Is there one to fit an earlier Bandit?

SteelD:
Thanks for the pics. Do you have/remember the Givi part number for that rack ?? I missed the previous thread on this subject.
That rack looks like it will do EXACTLY what I want for my '06 B12S......
and Ventura and its dopey dealers (at least in this end of the world) can kiss my grits, what with their outrageously priced stuff, nice as it is.

The rack is an actual Suzuki item available from Suzuki in the UK.

I have a Suzuki top case waiting for me at the dealer (it just needs the colour-coordinating trim panel) and the luggage is made by Kappa. Apparently, the case mounting is identical with Givi - I asked at a bike accessories store a month ago and they weren't sure so they tried it - a Givi box fitted a Kappa rack. So, a Givi box should fit the Suzuki rack.

Hope that helps.

BTW, I should have added that the side rails of the rear carrier make an excellent grab handle for putting the bike on the centre stand. If not, it's groping about under the seat looking for a frame rail to hang onto.

David:
Thanks for the clarification. I wonder if Suzuki Canada has such a rack available...???..... :duh:.....what was I thinking???
They'll have it available about 2010 if they keep to their usual schedules. "Marketing" and "customer service" are just vague concepts to those tossers.
Do you happen to remember the Suzuki part number at all, David ?? That way I could have something for Suzuki Canada to look for, at least.....although I'm not betting the ranch on quick availability/delivery.

Hey, wait a minute Zen, you better not be thinking about putting a topcase on this rack! Because if you are, I will be forced to flog you mercilessly! (by post of course) :stickpoke:  :stickpoke:

1250 Rack..
« Reply #10 on: June 11, 2007, 11:23:30 AM »
D, is there a web-site that we can order that rack from the U.K. I would be willing to wait for it because I can guarantee you that I would get it faster than they would market it in the U.S. Usually it takes 3-5 years for after market parts to really start hitting the market in any kind of numbers. If there a site that we can order them from, post it up and let us know. That rack looks great and oh yeah by the way, your bike is indentical to mine. Have you spotted the "blue" flake with it out in the sun?...Talk soon...Banditone1250s... :congrats:

A topcase? Eeeeewww! Of course not! (shudder)

I have a nice matching set of soft saddlebags and tail-pack that would hang nicely on this rack.

Here they are on the ol' V-Strom:

US Suzuki was pretty quick to offer up the accessories for the 2G back in '01 when it first came out - OTOH, they have NEVER offered the same quanitity of factory accessories for the B12 here that they have in Europe. About all they offered here for the B12 was a luggage rack, crash bars, tank bra and a gel seat.

I hope that they are quick about it. I am dying to do some mod's on mine. I have a Tail bag that I think will work great and I also have several tank bags that I intend to get some use out of. They are the Cargo (Frank Thomas) brand and I went last Wednesday to get the matching saddle bags but they did not have them in stock. (Imagine that). So I will just wait it out cause I am a little "anal" about every thing matching if you know what I mean. I will also do a can change and I had also thought about the lower fairing but after seeing it I think that I kinda like the half-naked look after all...Banditone1250s...

I LOOKED AT THIS NEW B-1250 AND I THINK THAT MY HOLESHOT RACK WILL FIT IT.....WITH A LITTLE MODIFICATION TO THE PLACEMENT OF THE MOUNTING PLATE THAT IS WELDED TO THE RACK.....THEREFORE, I AM SURE THAT DALE WALKER (HOLESHOT) WILL HAVE A RACK AVAILABLE IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE.....

WAY AHEAD OF THE SUZUKI DEALER.....AND MUCH NICER.....
