Mounting plate for rear deck. Add backrest/trunk. Want one?
« on: January 27, 2006, 09:58:15 AM »
My girlfriend found a nice silver trunk on ebay for $90 so I took off my 1200's hand hold behind the passanger and fabricated a mounting plate to it. The hardest part was designing the recess in the sheet metal to dip down in the body work to reach the four screw holes. After that it was easy. I bolted together the first one I've made but I will weld any more I make. I also added a quick release backrest for me when I don't have a passanger.  Now I am fabricating a Class 1 hitch for my Bandit to pull a 2' by 4' trailer. If you would like to see my mounting plate, e-mail me at auditorcs@juno.com and I'll send you a picture. I just bought a new welder so I can make you one.

:welcome: I know you're new, but you don't need to put the same post in three places.

Being new, I know that you look at everything. I do not know that the rest of the visitors do. Don't be too concerned though as I probably won't be originating another post.  By the way, I finished the hitch and trailer for my 1200. It will carry 500 lbs.

 :wtf:

It's just bad form in most (all?) boards like this to post the same thing in separte forums.  It would be like me asking how to inflate my tires in General, Tech, Tires and in the 400 forum.  It's impossible to track all the questions and responses.  People end up taking the time to respond twice and so on.

In fact, a lot of board admins would delete posts from newbies whose first post (or 3) are "offering" something, too.  I realize it's not V1a_gR^ or however the spam ads are trying to get by the filters but you get the idea.

Oh... :welcome:

OKAY. I GOT IT ON THE MULTIPLE POSTS. Although I've been working with computers since 1980, I haven't spent any time "chatting" on-line (except for a couple months with girls between girlfriends) and have never posted anything on any board before. I guess I'd rather work on my bike than talk about it. But if you are interested:

I bought a new, silver, 2003 1200 with 16 miles on it from a dealer last August for $5200 and since then I've added the following: Lower fairing (EU), Bar risers, Bar vib dampener, Zero Gravity smoked touring screen, Chopped the rear fender, Corona race team decal kit, Butterfly nymph graphic on tank, Magnetic vinyl scoops over SUZUKI logos on tank, Decaled a $30 full-face helmet, Installed a stero (Walkman to small 4 channel amp under seat to a pair of boxed 2-way 3 1/2" Alpines and 2 additional Alpine tweeters, Trunk, Hitch and Trailer.

I don't plan to do any power mods now as I am 40 and don't go looking for R1s and Busa's to race. I wrecked my V65 Magna at 150 in 1985 but now that I'm older, I don't think I bounce as well. I'm not dead though and after almost every light I hit 50 in 2 sec's with the front wheel bouncing off the pavement.

When I saw a monsterous luggage rack some guy made for his Bandit, I thought I could do better. I'm self employed and make $25  an hour remodeling homes and building additions so making these things for those interested wouldn't be making me something I'm not already making. I just thought I might offer my help to others who share my passion. I volunteer at my church and do work for others.

It is you who decide whether you will be cynical or appreciative in nature. I am tough enough to be a nasty as I want. I was undefeated, national champion wrestler at 175 lbs., yet I choose to be kind.

Hey sitler!  Good to have you aboard, many times over I see!  Do you have any pics of your bike with the lowers?  I have an 04 and want lowers for mine as well.  Pics of the stereo would be cool to for curiosity sake anyway.  Now, play nice with everyone.. hahaha :stickpoke:

I have many good shots on my harddrive but I can't find a good place to put them on the web yet. My bike looks very much like Bandit600X2. He first put on the US lower and then changed his mind and went with the French one. I bought the French lower. They both look nice but the French model looks fuller. Most people wouldn't even notice my stereo unless they knew it was there. The small plastic black enclosures for the 3 1/2" Alpines on the upper fairing mount between the bars and the screen. At 50 MPH with the wind whistling in my ears, I can't hear the music much but with a helmet with the visor cracked, I can her the music at 70 MPH. Now if I could only figure out how to mount a pair of 1000 watt, 12" subwoofers.    :)
